What Does a Dietitian Do?

Registered dietitians are regulated health care professionals who are trained to provide advice and counselling about diet, food and nutrition. They use the best available evidence coupled with good judgment to determine guidance and recommendations. The title ‘dietitian’ is protected by law. In Ontario, Nutritionist is not a protected title – that means anyone can use it. You can identify a dietitian by the initials RD after their name. To use this title, the dietitian must meet and maintain provincial registration requirements.

Most extended health care benefit plans provide coverage for a Registered Dietitian.
