The art and science of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) still continues to astound and bewilder us, even thousands of years after it is thought to have begun. Western medicine continues to research and further understand the physiological effects and benefits of acupuncture.
There are several options at VOR for the treatment of pain and symptoms with acupuncture. Several of our team members offer either traditional needle acupuncture or needless acupuncture.
Several team members are trained with acupuncture needles to stimulate acupuncture points or to release muscles which are tight and restricted.
Gaetanne, one of our Registered Physiotherapists, also offers the service of scalp acupuncture. Scalp acupuncture uses needles inserted along the scalp, to target certain regions of the brain. She has used this treatment technique with concussion patients to help with head pain, energy levels, clarity of vision, and sleep.
Needleless acupuncture is also called MPS (Micro-current Point Stimulation). This treatment involves the use of a battery operated device which stimulates acupoints without the use of needles. The MPS uses a DC (direct current) which “releases” the muscle tissue that impinges nerves and causes pain. The MPS uses the lower resistance of acupuncture points to very specifically and effectively treat the individual. The use of the MPS is grounded in evidence-based research. Some conditions commonly treated at VOR with the MPS include headaches, migraines, neck pain, jaw/ear pain, anxiety and stress.
We are pleased to offer the choice of needle and needleless acupuncture services to our patients. These options allow our patients to choose which treatment they are most comfortable with.
